Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica
Around 1957, Fernando Cruz arrived with his wife, Leonor, and son, Carlos Fernando, and first established Uvita de Osa, Costa Rica, which is named after the adjacent river. The family settled near the entrance to Punta Uvita, known then, and for many years later, as La Pachanga, or “The Party.” The Cruz family gained great wealth via local land purchases of approximately 2,225 acres, built Hacienda Bahia, a large hacienda and cattle farm, as well as started an airplane business.
