St. Andrews by-the-Sea, Canada
In 1783, British Loyalists settled Saint Andrews by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, Canada after the American Revolution. St. Andrew was one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ. This devoted Apostle was bound, not nailed, to the X-shaped cross or Crux decussata, called a "Saint Andrew's Cross." This type of crucifixion was performed at St. Andrew’s own urging, as he thought himself unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus.
