Kansas City, Missouri
In 1838 Kansas City, Missouri was initially founded as the "Town of Kansas" at the convergence of the Missouri and Kansas rivers, and officially became incorporated on March 28, 1853. Kansas City was named for the Kansas River, flowing about 170 miles in northeast Kansas and first mapped by French cartographer Guillaume de L'Isle (1675–1726) in "Carte de la Louisiane." Dubbed the Heart of Americ--Kansas City, Missouri, is often referred to as "KC”, while Kansas City, Kansas (just across the river) is known as “KCK."
