Lisbon, Portugal

A Greek myth is believed to be the origin of Lisbon, Portugal’s name. The Greeks are credited with naming Lisbon "Olissipo" or "Olissipona." The foundation of the name Lisbon was derived from the legend of Ulysses. The Greek myth recounts Ulysses settling Lisbon, after forcibly fleeing the Greeks and Troy.
