Bangalore, India
Bangalore, India is a bustling global metropolis and home to diverse businesses in the software, aerospace, defense and telecom industries. The earliest reference to Bangalore may be found in a ninth century Western Ganga Dynasty stone inscription. The name “Bengaluru" was detected on a "vira gallu”, or "hero stone" - a rock extolling the virtues of warriors, and recalled a battle fought in approximately 890 AD. Then, in the eleventh century, Hoysala King Veera Ballala II (1173–1220 AD), while on a hunting expedition, lost his way in the forest and came across an old woman who fed him boiled beans. The grateful king named the area "benda-kaal-uru”, or "town of boiled beans", which eventually became known as Bengaluru.
