Rome, Italy
One predominant legend surrounding the origin of the name Rome focuses on the story of the twin brothers Romulus and Remus. According to Roman tradition, the ancient city was founded by Romulus on April 21, 753 BC. The tale of the city reveals that Romulus and Remus decided to build a city together. However, the twins could not decide who would rule the city, so they attributed that fate to the selection of spiritual omens. Remus was the first to see six vultures flying in the sky. Soon, thereafter, Romulus saw twelve vultures and thought that he had won. Finally, it was Romulus who was designated to lead, and, after a heated argument, Romulus killed his brother Remus.
