Tel Aviv, Israel
Founded in 1909, Tel Aviv, Israel is known as "The City That Never Sleeps,” with 24-hour culture and serving as a popular tourist destination on the Israeli Mediterranean coastline for all to enjoy. Tel Aviv was the Hebrew title of Theodor Herzl's utopian Zionist novel, Altneuland ("Old New Land"), in 1902, and was officially selected as the city’s name in 1910. Aviv is Hebrew for "spring” - symbolizing renewal, and tel means, “a man-made mound of accumulated layers of civilization,” and recalls the ancient. Moreover, in July 2003, UNESCO declared "The White City,” the over 4,000 Bauhaus "unique, historical, architectural buildings" of Tel Aviv, a World Heritage site.
