Bilbao, Spain
Since it’s foundation in the early 14th century, Bilbao has been the commercial hub for Spain’s Basque Country. Euskaltzaindia, the official regulatory institution of the Basque language, believes that between the two possible names existing in Basque, Bilbao and Bilbo, that the correct historical name is actually Bilbo. Although the term Bilbo does not appear on old documents, "William Shakespeare mentions “bilboes” in his play, The Merry Wives of Windsor, as a reference to swords presumably made of Biscayan iron - suggesting that the word has been in use since at least the sixteenth century."
