Woodstock, New York
In 1902, the Arts and Crafts movement came to Woodstock, New York when the "beauty of its setting and close proximity to New York City" attracted Ralph Whitehead, and his partners, Bolton Brown and Hervey White. Shortly thereafter, the famed Byrdcliffe arts and crafts colony was established, and the Art Students League of New York City opened a summer school in Woodstock. With Woodstock's reputation as an acclaimed arts center, it is no wonder that the town was the inspiration for the historic Woodstock Festival!
