San Francisco, California

The Spanish missionaries settled the San Francisco Peninsula in 1776. Between 1769-1823 the Spanish Franciscan Order built a series of missions in California. Saint Francis of Assisi was a Catholic Franciscan Friar and is the patron saint of animals, the environment and Italy. This famous City by the Bay is named for Saint Francis of Assisi.
