Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina
In 1895, the Village of Pinehurst, North Carolina was founded by James Walker Tufts, president of the prosperous American Soda Fountain Company. Mr. Tuft’s goal was to create a premiere health resort. He immediately commissioned Frederick Law Olmstead, designer of Central Park in New York City, as well as the Biltmore Estate, Asheville, North Carolina, to oversee the project.
