Marrakech, Morocco
In 1070, construction began on the city of Marrakech, Morocco. The site of Marrakech had been chosen because the land was located in neutral territory, between two adversarial tribes. The name Marrakech is believed to have roots derived from the Berber word “murakush," or the "land of god."
