Moscow, Russia
The name Moscow, Russia was initially recorded in March, 1147. The first official reference to Moscow was made when Yuri Dolgoruki asked the Grand Duke of Kieff to “come to me, brother, to Moscow.” Moscow was named after the Moskva River. Literally translated, Moscow means "the city by the Moskva River."
