Playa del Carmen, Mexico
Playa del Carmen, Mexico is named for Our Lady of Mount Carmel, or the Virgin Mary. Our Lady of Mount Carmel refers to Mary’s gift of the scapular made to Saint Simon Stock, a member of the Carmelite religious order. On Sunday, July 16, 1251, Mary is said to have appeared to Saint Stock in Cambridge, England. On this date Mary presented him with a scapular, a shoulder length brown religious garment.
