Puerto Iguazu, Argentina
Puerto Iguazu, Argentina is named after the famous Iguazu Falls, which are only ten miles from Puerto Iguazu. The name Iguazu is a combination of the Tupi, the native people of Brazil’s (Iguazu Falls are on the boarder of Argentina and Brazil), words for both ‘water’ and ‘big’. Tupi legend believed that the Iguazu Falls were created, because a god wanted to marry a Tupi girl, called Naipí. Naipí, and the man she loved, Tarobá, attempted to runaway together in a canoe. The furious, mythical god divided the river and created the Iguazu Falls.
