Seattle, Washington
Seattle, Washington is named after Sealth (c. 1786-1866), also known as Chief Seattle, who was the leader of the Washington Territory Native American tribes, the Suquamish and Duwamish. Although the first white settlers arrived in the Seattle area in 1851, founding father Doc Maynard, made the suggestion to name the town after Chief Seattle in 1853. The name Seattle was first officially recorded on May 23, 1853.
