Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires, Argentina was named after a miracle. In 1335, Aragonese sailors (the Mediterranean kingdom, that became Spain) retrieved a statue of the Virgin Mary from the ocean, after it had calmed a storm in the Mediterranean Sea. In English, Buenos Aires literally translates to the “Fair Winds”. It was a tradition among the Spanish sailors to pay homage to the Virgin Mary, with frequent prayers of safe voyage.
