Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town, South Africa is named for the majestic coastline, the Cape of Good Hope. Although Asian explorers may have reached the area earlier, the first Portuguese Explorers arrived in 1488 and called the area "Cape of Storms". John II of Portugal then changed the name to "Cape of Good Hope"; a name celebrating Portugal’s impending good fortune, with the discovery of a new sea route to India and the East.
