Kangaroo Island, Australia
In 1802, British navigator Matthew Flinders landed near Kangaroo Head and named the wilderness "Kanguroo Island”. Shortly thereafter, sealers and other settlers journied to Kangaroo Island. However, it was not until 1836 that Australia established their first documented settlement. Today, due the National and Conservation Parks, more than half of Kangaroo Island’s bush land is preserved as if Matthew Flinders had just landed.
