Houston, Texas
In 1836, Houston, Texas was founded by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen, two real estate entrepreneurs from New York City. Houston was officially incorporated in1837 and named after the President of the Republic of Texas, General Sam Houston (1793-1863). General Houston was honored for his command of troops in a pivotal battle of the Texas Revolution, the Battle of San Jacinto. Later, General Houston was elected as Senator of Texas, and then finally, the Governor of Texas.
