Hoboken, New Jersey
In the 17th century, the Pavonia, New Netherland colony first settled Hoboken, New Jersey. During the early 19th century, Hoboken was developed with the help of Colonel John Stevens (1749-1838), an American lawyer, engineer, and inventor, as a resort community and later as a residential district. In 1855, Hoboken became a city and was named by Colonel Stevens, who built the famed area estate, Castle Point.
