Villa Pehuenia, Argentina
The name Villa Pehuenia, Argentina is attributed to the abundant forests of “millenary monkey-puzzle trees”, or pehuenes, that grow in Patagonia. The pehuenes, a member of the pine family, has grown in the Andes since prehistoric times. Considered a sacred tree to the Mapuche people, the native inhabitants of Central and Southern Chile and Southern Argentina, the pehuenes offers protection from wind, as well as provides seeds and food.
