Vancouver, Canada
In 1792, Vancouver, Canada was explored and named by Captain George Vancouver (1757-1798), a British explorer and officer in the Royal Navy. The word Vancouver has roots in the Dutch name "van Coevorden". In Dutch “van” indicates the origins of a person’s home. Coevorden is a sleepy city located in The Netherlands. Captain Vancouver is noted for his exploration of the North-West Coast of North America, including the vast shorelines of Alaska, British Columbia, Oregon and Washington.
