Sun Valley, Idaho

Early in 1936, Sun Valley, Idaho was created under the direction of the Union Pacific Railroad Chairman, Averell Harriman. Count Felix Shaffgotsch had conducted an extensive search for the location of the first United States Ski Resort and found it in the state of Idaho. Harriman simultaneously commissioned New York City publicist Steve Hannigan, who had promoted the popular vacation destination Miami Beach, Florida, to craft a “catchy” name for this newly discovered area - Sun Valley, Idaho was born!
