Reading, Pennsylvania
In 1733, Reading, Pennsylvania was founded by Thomas and Richard Penn, and Conrad Weiser, a German and a patriot. Thomas and Richard Penn were the sons of William Penn (1644-1718), the renowned founder of Pennsylvania. The Penns choose to name the new town after their home of Reading, approximately forty miles west of London, in Berkshire, England.
