Broadway

Although the history of New York City theater begins in the mid-1700s, professional theaters did not officially become Broadway, as we know it, until the 1920s. Today, Broadway is categorized as a renowned group of more than forty theaters in New York’s Theatre District. However, the enterprising talents of New York Theater's greats, and dreamers, should also be saluted when considering Broadway's foundation. These visionaries include: P.T. Barnum, creator of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus, George M. Cohan, composer of such American classics as "Give My Regards to Broadway" and "You’re a Grand Old Flag", and Florenz Ziegfeld, producer of the stage spectacular The Ziegfeld Follies, as well as the first modern musical, Show Boat.
