Chris Plys: Duluth, Minnesota
Chris Plys, a member of the 2010 US Olympic Curling Team and a highly decorated athlete, was born in Duluth, Minnesota and still happily calls it his hometown. Although Chris currently serves as the first alternate on the US Olympic Curling Team, the youngest member of the squad has more than proven himself. He earned his coveted team spot by winning the last four US Junior National Championships, as well as earning a gold medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships. A true Midwest boy at heart, Plys credits his parents and grandparents for his success! Chris states: “My parents got me through everything and my grandparents always kept me seeing things on the brighter side.” As the 2010 international curling season began, Chris Plys proudly represented the United States around the world, and was thrilled to compete at the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, and, perhaps, beyond!

South 5th Avenue West and Interstate 35
What is your favorite indoor activity in Duluth?
Curling is a winter team sport with similarities to lawn bowls and shuffleboard that is played on an ice scoring board.
What is your favorite sound or noise in Duluth? The sound of the waves, and the horns, from the 1,000 footers (boats) and bridge in the summer.

What drink best reflects Duluth?
Either hot chocolate (because it gets so cold in the winters) or an Arnold Palmer (because the summers are amazing). That just seems right.
An Arnold Palmer, invented by the famed golfer, is an equal mixture of iced tea and lemonade.
What song or type of music best reflects Duluth? The song "Say Shhh" from Atmosphere. They are a Minnesota hip-hop group. I think it's perfect because the song is all about how everything is so laid back and easy going, compared to all the hustle and bustle of the big cities… You can really just live.
If Heaven were Duluth, what would God say to a visitor when they arrive at the Pearly Gates? If it was wintertime: did you bring your choppers? But also definitely: "Make yourself at home and enjoy the best of both worlds of the outdoors and city."
