Car Stereo Wars: Melbourne, Australia
Car Stereo Wars, an eclectically, hip indie pop/rock band with roots in trip-hop and electronica, are busy making an international name for themselves in cosmopolitan Melbourne, Australia. Car Stereo Wars is Jason ‘Blackie’ White (bass), Matt Gillman (guitar), vocalist Alyssa Doe, along with new members Graeme ‘Gra’ Luther (drums), Sean Ashbrooke (guitar) and David Meagher (keyboards). What is your favorite smell or taste in Melbourne?
Melbourne makes pretty mean coffee. At the moment I'm in my strong latte or flat white stage with one sugar. The best coffee I can find in Melbourne is: Journal. Also, I have to recommend: Seven Seeds.
Flat white, a coffee more commonly served in Australia or New Zealand, is prepared by pouring hot milk from the bottom of a steam cup over a shot of espresso
Journal Café and Canteen: 253-265 Flinders Lane
Hours: Monday-Friday 7am-9pm
and Saturday-Sunday 7am-6pm
Seven Seeds: 114 Berkeley Street, Carlton
Hours: Monday-Saturday 7am-5pm and
Sunday 8am-4pm
What drink best reflects Melbourne?
In summer a chilled locally brewed beer or glass of wine. Can’t go past a Mountain Goat beer at the Wesley Anne on High Street, Northcote. They have great 2 for 1 meals on Monday eve as well!
Wesley Anne: 250 High Street, Northcote
Hours: Monday-Friday 4pm-late and Saturday-Sunday 2pm-late
What song or type of music best reflects Melbourne?
Melbourne is famous for pub rock but we have all genres, plenty of folk and blues as well.
I think the best live music pub would be the Corner Hotel in Richmond. It's great to play at and great to be in the audience. My favorite live music experiences often happen there. Plenty of bands out there -if you are in Melbourne for the weekend just pick up a free Beat or Impress magazine and take a punt!
If Heaven were Melbourne, what would God say to a visitor when they arrive at the Pearly Gates? He’d probably just offer a cold beer and smile.
