Sun Valley Suns: Sun Valley, Idaho
The Sun Valley Suns Men’s Ice Hockey Team provides a raucous good time on Friday and Saturday nights throughout the winter at the Sun Valley Indoor Ice Arena. As a National Amateur Hockey Association club, the Suns rule the ice in their conference. They went nearly undefeated in their 2006 season with a championship record of 23-1. This tough, competitive team is made up of “25 local heartthrobs who range in age from 19 to 50.” Adding to their notoriety, Ketchum-resident Bobby "Kingpin" Farrelly, one of the Farrelly brothers filmmaking duo (There's Something About Mary and Dumb & Dumber), has graced the ice on more than occasion, playing goalie for visiting Boston teams. Rowdy fans also add to the rip roaring fun. In games against archrival the Jackson Hole Moose, fans have been known to throw duck heads on the ice when the Suns score. Why duck heads? Because moose heads are too big.
