Finn Riggins: Boise, Idaho

Finn Riggins-Wake (Keep This Town Alive)

Respected as both a dynamic and eclectic staple in the Idaho music scene since 2000, Finn Riggins is a band that hit the road with vibrant live stage shows and made discerning audience throughout the United States rave. Finn Riggins is the serendipitous result of a collaboration between Cameron Bouiss-drums, Eric Gilbert-keyboard and Lisa Simpson-guitar, meeting as fellow music majors at the University of Idaho. The band spent several creative years cultivating their signature “compositionally complex music with an often bright pop sensibility.” While at their Sun Valley, Idaho “helibase,” their secret practice spot/tour launch pad, Finn Riggins grew into a popular national touring act. In 2009, the now Boise based trio released their second full-length album Vs. Wilderness, coupled with (of course) an extensive nationwide tour – in a single year alone, these indie-rock road warriors played over “200 shows in 35 different states, including appearances at esteemed festivals, like Austin's SXSW!”

What is your favorite outdoor activity in Boise? Bicycling, floating the Boise River and playing bocce ball.

Street bike - bicycle commuter. Love riding all over, but the Greenbelt along the river is a highlight for sure.

As for bocce ball, some friends from Colorado got us into "extreme bocce" several years ago... which pretty much entails playing bocce ball wherever and everywhere. On our big US tour this spring we played on lots of beaches. The big parks here in Boise are good spots, or friend’s backyards. There's also a great Frisbee golf course in Ann Morrison Park. Fan of disc golf too and croquet and kubb - love yard games. Bocce goes with us everywhere though, not necessarily isolated to our time in Boise.

Floating the 6-mile designated area of the Boise River is a popular summertime activity for locals and tourists!
Please visit Boise River Float for detailed information!

”The 23-mile Boise River Greenbelt, a paved trail for bikes and pedestrians, is one of Boise's most beloved parks.”

What drink best reflects Boise? Slurpees, micro brews or coffee. Sockeye Brewery and Salmon River Brewery (technically McCall, but on tap around Boise) are a couple of favorites.

I drink my coffee black or with honey in it or with cream and sugar on special occasions. Lisa doesn't drink coffee. I don't really have a favorite coffee shop, but Big City Coffee and Dawson Taylor Coffee tend to get my business the most.

In 1969, 7-Eleven convenience stores began selling Slurpees - an icy slush drink! Today, Slurpees are served around the globe and even come in regional flavors!
