Los Angeles actor and filmmaker, Rider Strong is best known for the seven seasons he starred on the hit ABC teen sitcom “Boy Meets World,” as Shawn Hunter. After the show wrapped in 2000, Rider pursued his education, graduating magna cum laude from Columbia University and receiving his M.F.A. in Fiction & Literature from Bennington College. Now, with his equally talented brother, Shiloh Strong, Rider has been producing a series of critical acclaimed short films. Their short the Irish Twins, which premiered at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, went on to win multiple jury and audience awards at festivals worldwide. That same year the brothers created a spec commercial for Barack Obama’s presidential bid that MoveOn.org awarded ‘Funniest Ad’ and raised the money to take to air. Their most recent short, The Dungeon Master, was a selection of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, where it won Best Short in the online competition. With their graphic novel, Blood Merchant currently in pre-production, The Dungeon Master just screened at Comic-Con in San Diego, and is also an official selection at many more festivals this year, including the Rhode Island International Film Festival and the Williamsburg Independent Film Festival!

What is your favorite word to describe Silver Lake? Walkable. Believe me, in Los Angeles, this is rare.

What word best reflects the people of Silver Lake? Unfortunately? Hipster.

What is the most creative, spiritual or emotional place in Silver Lake? My front porch. We're up on a hill so I have a view of all of Hollywood, up to the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Park Observatory.

"Looking for a picture-perfect view of the Sign? Though it is visible from all over the city from its lofty perch on Mt. Lee, it can actually be surprisingly difficult to get a well angled shot." Please visit Hollywood Sign for a map with great viewing ideas and more!

What is your favorite outdoor activity in Silver Lake? Biking in one of the few bike lanes in LA.

What is your favorite indoor activity in Silver Lake? Eating amazing meals in secret strip mall restaurants. (If you see Rider ask him…)

What is your favorite sound or noise in Silver Lake? Music from one of the many street fairs that happen every year. Right down the street from us: Silver Lake Jubilee and Sunset Junction Street Fair.

What is your favorite smell or taste in Silver Lake? Sourdough bread from the farmers market. We call Saturday "bread day" for this reason. I will eat an entire loaf in one day. That’s not healthy, I know.

Silver Lake Farmers Market: 700 Sunset Boulevard
Hours: Tuesday 2pm-7:30pm and Saturday 8am-1:30pm

What drink best reflects Silver Lake? Any of the fancy bourbon drinks from Thirsty Crow. Don't let people tell you it’s Intelligentsia coffee. Both places are overpriced, but Thirsty Crow is worth it.

Thirsty Crow: 2939 West Sunset Boulevard
Hours: Monday-Saturday 5pm-2am and Sunday 2pm-2am

Intelligentsia Silver Lake: 3922 West Sunset Boulevard
Hours: Thursday-Saturday 6am-11pm and Sunday-Wednesday 6am-8pm

What song or type of music best reflects Silver Lake? Obscurer-than-thou indie rock. But it's good!

If Heaven were Silver Lake, what would God say to a visitor when they arrive at the Pearly Gates? Hope you like skinny jeans.
