Paulette Phlipot’s artistic touch has appeared in Entertaining Sun Valley Style and Taste of Wyoming, and earned the Sun Valley, Idaho resident Best of Show at the International Association of Culinary Professionals conference in New Orleans. The Big Easy conference introduced Phlipot to Silicon Valley writer Cheryl Sternman Rule, and although the book that celebrates the visual beauty and culinary potential in all fruits and vegetables wasn’t more than an idea at the time, four years later it was definitely Ripe.

Arranged by the color inherent in its subjects, Ripe has 150 photographs delivering fruits and vegetables in their glory, from a forest of untrimmed parsnips standing on end to contrasting swirls of garam masala cream decorating carrot soup and glittering ruby pomegranate seeds mounded atop drop cookies on a plate. Not often do sumptuous photographs in a cookbook warrant top honors on the coffee table, demanding a closer look. But thanks to the artistry of Phlipot, Ripe earns a spot on the coffee table, as well as the kitchen counter.
