Ashley Caldwell: Loudoun County, Virginia
Ashley Caldwell, USA Olympic Skier
Loudoun County, Virginia United States
Ashley Caldwell, 28, in a move that reflects upon her childhood in Loudoun County, Virginia, just outside of Washington D.C., plans to take on Beijing in her fourth Winter Olympics. Caldwell is one of the most successful women in U.S. aerials history. Her jump with four twists and three flips is close to impossible for most women, but Caldwell is only one of a handful of freestylers in the world who could do it. Ashley is the sole American with such a jump in her repertoire and additionally one of only a few female aerialists who can land a triple somersault. These moves are part of her goal to close the traditional gap between female and male aerials and harkens to her three-time win as a teen in the local Punt, Pass & Kick football contest. Even today Caldwell admits she throws a mean spiral. That's one of the reasons Loudoun County is a favorite place. It reminds the athlete that shes always been willing to not only take on the boys, but win.
